Hello folks. Some of you will know me from my Adventures in the House of Cards blog. Some of you don’t know me at all. Some of you may not even exist and I’m just writing for the great void that is the internet.
But that’s all right.
I’m here today to introduce what I hope will become a vibrant collection of my photographic exploits.
2010 has proven to be a year of great change and inspiration. I’ve done things this year that I never fathomed I was capable of. One of the most profound and influential changes has been my decision to pursue photography as a career.
I have always enjoyed shooting photos, I just never quite imagined that I could turn it into a life’s pursuit. Which of course was the biggest problem of all: I put that idea into a box labeled “Impossibles”and left it there for some time. I became so comfortable with the idea that I couldn’t be a professional photographer that for a long time it didn’t even occur to me to challenge that notion.
Until one day I did. And that made all the difference.
So I got out of my own way once and for all. And here we are.
Naturally there’s a little more to it, which I will happily recount for you one day, but for now I just want to say the following:
- “Hello world!” (For those of you unfamiliar with WordPress, when you start a new blog that’s the title that it automatically prescribes to your example post. It entertained me. So I kept it.)
- Thanks for stopping in. Really.
- Don’t be strangers! I am so grateful to have you all along for the ride and absolutely want to get to know you, so leave a comment. Say hello. Say aloha. Say something in French. Whatever strikes you, throw it my way. Even if it’s rotten fruit. (“But really, folks, is this thing on? Tip your waitress…try the veal…I’ll be here all week!”)
- And finally, a big thank you to my mother who kicked things off here by obtaining the domain name and setting up the initial WordPress site. You’re wonderful and I love ya! And to Dan Schneider, a talented guy with a good eye for design and knowledge of all things technical to back it up. He shares my affinity for green and took pity on me one night as I struggled to make a logo that looked even moderately professional (it didn’t). He graciously took it over and turned this site into something much more indicative of me. Thank you, thank you. And finally…again: thank you to my family and close friends who are a joy, an inspiration and always supportive of my endeavors.
- Oh, and a special thank you to Daniel Petty for snapping the above photo. OK, I’m really done now. No really.
