Every now and then something remarkable will grab your attention.
This sunset that poured through the office windows last Thursday made a swarm of reporters, editors, photographers, look up, pause with wonderment, and grab whatever camera they had to snap a quick shot from the balcony.
It didn’t last for much more than ten minutes, but it was enough time to remind us all to stop, take a deep breath, and reaffirm that the world is a big and marvelous place.
We each need to make it a habit to step outside of ourselves and take in the world beyond our own little viewpoint. There is so much waiting for you if you simply lay aside yourself now and then, and be open to finding it.
I am absolutely guilty of getting caught up in my own personal dramas and concerns. Bills and work, gadgets, Twitter, Facebook, goals, sorrows, triumphs. These are things we can’t ignore or abandon. But we can maintain perspective. And do so we must.
So, next time you’re trapped in your own little bubble, step outside on whatever balcony equivalent you have, and just take a look around. It’ll do you a world of good.
And if you find that’s not enough, get some coffee. That will do you a world of good also.

p.s. “Do so we must”…really? I think I was channeling my inner Yoda on that one…
