My sister, Emily, loves.loves.loves the rain. She is better suited for the damp air of the Pacific Northwest than anyone I’ve ever met before.
Clearly, she and I are quite opposite on that front. I for one, love Colorado’s 300+ days per year of sun. The drier, sunnier, brighter a day is, the more I perk up. The sun and myself are honorary BFFs.
However, as the sun has apparently decided to take an indefinite leave of absence, Emily devised some tips for rain survival.
- When walking outside, start singing the opening “doos” of “Singing in the Rain” to yourself. (as seen here)
- Imagine splashing in the puddles.
- Or…actually splash in the puddles. (Replace laceless shoes with galoshes first.)
- If you want to put a smile on other gloomy faces, sing out loud the entire “Singing in the Rain” song. (again, right here)
- Or, say “Tut tut, it looks like rain” at random intervals. (My suggestion: say “tut, tut, it looks like rain” sans umbrella, face pointed directly upward, as the downpour completely drenches you. That ought to get some laughs. Or a call to the funny farm.)
Not a bad start.
What are your tips for damp weather survival? Are there any Pacific Northwesters in the house?
Now, please excuse me while I go attempt to get the “Singing in the Rain” song unstuck from my brain…
