A blogger and a book store || The Pioneer Woman in Denver

This is the face of a man surrounded by a gaggle of girls waiting to hear a beloved blogger talk about her newest book.

Ree Drummond, the popular blogger behind The Pioneer Woman site, came to Denver yesterday. She recently published her first book (that’s not a cookbook that is), and stopped at the Tattered Cover on her book tour. Emily originally turned me on to P-Dubs a little over a year ago. (That’s her oft-used nickname for herself, not of my own creation. I don’t have enough street cred to come up with such monikers. Case in point, I throw around terms like “monikers” then look it up to make sure I’m using it correctly. Yeah, I’m cool.)

Reading through her site every day – and there’s something new on at least one of the sections almost every single day, she’s a prolific writer and certainly puts me to shame – she comes off as charming and funny. The content she puts up there is lighthearted, humorous, witty, she makes you feel like a good friend. In person, she’s exactly the same.

It’s not always a given that the person you are as a faceless blogger (sounds like a horror movie in the making, “Coming to theaters near you this summer: The Faceless Blogger!”) is the same person you’ll be in person. Seriously, if you ever meet me, you’ll see what I mean. For instance, as you read this post, you’re in absolutely no danger of getting coffee spilled all over you at any moment. In person, this is a very real possibility.

Just ask my loved ones.

P-Dubs though, as she spoke to the masses, spoke like she writes, personable and friendly. It was lovely.

As she is such a popular gal however, we got there early and had to sit about for a while, waiting for her talk to begin. Which is where this comes in:

And these:

(Doesn’t she look like a movie star from old black and white flicks? “I’m ready for my closeup.”)

My family just loves when I pull out the camera to entertain myself.

We were able to find seats, but many were left to linger in the hallways.

Or stand against the walls.

Or be held gently in their mothers’ arms.

(Sorry, he was too cute not to take a picture.)

Most people were there to have Ree sign a book, but we opted out. She had graciously decided that she would stay at the bookstore, signing away, until everyone who wanted to chat with her was through. On her last stop, this kind gesture meant she was at it for 5 hours. That’s impressive.

As such, her general greetings and opening talk wasn’t very long. But I still grabbed a few shots.

And there you have it. That’s approximately two hours of my weekend.

Elise stayed with me Friday night, and I have many more little frames to share with you as captured with the new fancy phone. (The darn thing is addictive. I’m going to have to join a Fancy Phone Anonymous group.)

In the meantime, I’d definitely encourage you to go check out The Pioneer Woman site. There’s something there for everyone from cooking, to photography, to anecdotes about her life on the ranch. Whatever you find, it will brighten your day.

Promise.

What did you all do this weekend?
