Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
My sister says that the traditional color of St. Paddy’s Day is blue.
The exact reason for that is still pending.
So until we know for sure, here is a little post dedicated to the color green.
(Fair warning: All of these, except for the first one, were discovered around the office earlier today. A girl’s gotta work with what she’s got!)
OK, so these aren’t green. But if I don’t gain 200 pounds from all these treats it will be a St. Patrick’s Day miracle!
Addendum:
Emily, archivist extraordinaire that she is, came through with a bit of explanation for the green v. blue debate. For the win!
“Ok, here’s what I could find on the blue vs. green for St. Patrick’s Day.
Traditionally, blue is the color identified with St. Patrick. (Why, I’m still searching.) However, he’s also identified with the shamrock, and it used to be that on St. Patrick’s day, people wore shamrocks in their lapels. Then, in 1798, the United Irish Uprising happened, and they took the green shamrock in the lapel a step farther and made it political by dressing in green. Later, Americans took to wearing the color green as identifying yourself with Ireland. Info comes from here: http://www.history.com/topics/st-patricks-day/videos#green”
