some recents || Fancy phone photo moments

(Recent #1)

There comes a time in every girl’s life when a girl just has to eat a waffle.

That girl is me.

And so I did.

Recently, some very good friends of mine moved to Denver. After only a few months in this city, one of them told me he had found the best waffles ever. Best. Waffles. Ever.

Quite a claim for a guy who hasn’t been in this neck of the woods for long.

And there comes a time in every girl’s life when a girl just has to test such claims.

That girl is also me.

And so I did.

My friend didn’t lie. If ever you’re in Denver, go to this place – Waffle Brothers – and eat an original waffle with something delicious on top. Like fresh strawberries. Or, I hear they make magic with Nutella. You shall not regret it.

On jalapenos, and how I dislike them || Archive redux

(This picture has nothing to do with jalapenos. But it does have to do with cooking. So... 1-for-2?)

I have been doing my best impression of a blur today as I rush around getting work things done, getting packing things done, and getting photography things done. That’s a lot of things for just one of me. (Does anyone have a cloning device they’d be willing to loan me? Anyone?) In an effort to maintain what residual sanity I have left after it all , I’m bringing to you a past post from my since-retired blog.

God speed.

June 30, 2010 — Have you ever heard of gazpacho? It’s a cold, summer-type soup, tomato-based and chock-full of vegetables. Well I decided yesterday while working away that I needed to have a healthy dinner. And what’s healthier than vegetable-y (Emily’s word, not mine) soup? So I diligently copied down the recipe and after work went to the store for supplies.

hot dog interlude || Colorado summer food

As you can imagine, I am knee-deep in editing and preparation for this weekend. But, one is never too busy to take a break for some grilled hot dogs.

Which leads me to my main point: Summer is here! Celebrate!

I love summer.

Beach time. (Yes, Colorado is a landlocked state. What’s your point?)

Grilled food. (Grilled corn specifically. Am I right?)

S’mores roasted over a fire pit. (Can I get an amen?)

Shorts.

Sun.

Sunglasses.

Picnics at the park. (My new business partner claims he has never been on a picnic before. I may have to disown him.)

Longer days.

Freshly cut grass.

natural light vegetables || food photography

There’s nothing quite like photographing beautifully colored vegetables in natural light.

There’s nothing quite like being so inspired by the natural light mixing with the contrasting vegetables that you come up with a file name so lyrical as natural light vegetables.

There’s nothing quite like just going with it and making that the title of this post too.

There’s nothing quite like getting so fed up with a particularly ridiculous photographer/blogger/babbler that you click out of the browser as quickly as possible, never to return again.

It’s OK, I won’t hold it against you.

beans || Monday thoughts

So, the weekend happened.

Yep.

(You come here for this kind of profundity, right?)

(Related: Do you think the word profundity has some sort of identity complex because people often question its validity as a real word?)

(See: previous comment about this blog’s profundity.)

I celebrated Easter with my family (a Happy Easter to you all!), and ate a lot of delicious foods. And lots of sugar.

In fact, I think it would be fair to say this particular post is brought to you by the jelly bean variety of sugar.

I’ll even one up you…self…I think it would be fair to say this entire weekend was brought to you by jelly beans.

The Starburst jelly beans. Because all jelly beans were not created equal.

In conclusion, it’s Monday. And I’m just going to go ahead and blame all of the above on that.

Garfield would.
