we love you colorado…

Absolutely heartbroken right now. The events in Aurora today are…well the words don’t exist.

A lot of tragic news has come out of my beloved home state this summer, but I assure you, that’s not all there is to us. We are made up of so much more than these horrifying events. Stay strong, Colorado. Thoughts, prayers, love, to you all.

jugglin’ || Weekend roundup

A silly, inventive moment. This little scooter mastered the art of baton juggling (batons? glorified juggling sticks?) before my very eyes. Thus proving his hand-eye-coordination far surpasses my own.

If I had a nickel for every time I was shown up by a six-year-old…well, then, I’d have a lot of nickels. Don’t judge.

The siblings and I embarked off to the Colorado Renaissance Festival this past weekend. We saw jugglers and elephants and vendors and “jousting” (it was more play-acting than actual physical exertion in a sporting manner) and ate giant turkey legs (mutant turkeys more like; I’m pretty sure turkeys aren’t supposed to get that big) and Emily got a stick for walking. And for fending off the mutant turkeys.

Just in case.

We don’t often get to have sibling date days like this in the crush of schedules and obligations, but when we do it’s always a delight. I’m pretty fond of my sibling folk and plan on keeping them around for a while longer.

Just in case.

summer in squares || VSCO cam photos

Hello, my lovelies. Summer has been sweltering here in Denver for the past several weeks. We have had plus-100 degree days. We have had a two-week run of plus-95 degree days. We have had fires. And finally, the blessed rain did come….and promptly flooded half of Denver. (OK, I’m exaggerating, but it felt that way.)

We can never be fully content can we? It’s too hot, we wish for rain, it starts dumping, and then we just want the sun to come back out. I’m pretty sure Mother Nature spends most of her time with arms thrown up in exasperation saying, “WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT FROM ME?!”

If only we knew. If only.

But, besides the ups and downs of the Colorado climate — I say this like such a climate is somehow new and shocking around these parts, but come on, it’s Colorado after all! — the summer thus far has been rather lovely. I’ve consumed fresh fruit (sadly, not all fruit made it; RIP little cherry in the trash can) walked through the rain (and attempted to photograph myself doing so; the outcome was more melty than magnificent) , and fancy-phone-photographed all varieties of things.

I’m working on some personal projects right now (anyone else notice the severe lack of videos around here lately? just sayin’…) and between weddings and some freelance editorial work, it has been a productive, albeit full, summer season. I have to say though, I have been longing for more summer downtime. Time free of schedules and responsibilities. Time devoted to nothing but being outside, being goofy, and being on (faux) summer break.

But what about you? What are you doing this summer? What adventures have you embarked upon?

the big yellow one is the sun || transit of venus

With the cloud cover as it was here in Colorado yesterday, it seemed Venus’ transit would not be witnessed in our lifetime.

After all, 2117 is a long, long way down the road.

But the heavens saw fit to clear up, and the crowd gathered around half a dozen telescopes on the lawn outside the Denver Museum of Nature and Science hurried to take a look.

Including me and Dan.

a certain gal and the intrepid fellow || Weekend roundup

It was the winter of 2012.

The snow began on a Thursday, late in the evening.

It didn’t stop for two days.

Students everywhere rejoiced at forced school closings.

Commuters cringed at icy roads and careless drivers.

Backs broke while removing the thick, heavy snow.

And a certain gal in Denver coped by concocting some French toast.
