“Tis a privilege” || Colorado photography

There’s a quote affixed in the lobby of the office I work in.

“Tis a privilege to live in Colorado.”

As a native Coloradan (not Coloradoan – confusing, I know), I couldn’t agree more. Being here is a blessing.

Waking up to this splendor day-after-day; being a mere 30-minute drive from the cow town into the mountains; living a mile above sea level and having a superiority complex because of it; hating the fact that you live a mile high because baking renders you helpless (yeah, Anya, blame it on that); reveling in the 300+ days of sunshine; embracing the western lifestyle because Colorado is the west (if anyone tries to convince you it’s the midwest, just send ’em my way).

And finally, snow || Last photos of 2010

Happy New Year!

As if to show all us doubters that there was still a little kick left in it, 2010 finally gave us the snow we’ve all been hoping/waiting/praying for this winter. It was a last-minute, “Hey look at me!” endeavor by good ol’ 2010. (As a middle child, I can fully relate to these tactics.) And who can blame him? Shiny and new 2011 was just about upon us and who doesn’t love shiny stuff? (It sparkles!) So, as a parting gift, we received about 4 inches of powdery, white snow throughout Thursday. (Hey, that also sparkles!)

East || Travel photography roundup

I like to wander a lot when I travel. If I get lost, so much the better. The more I can disregard the clock and focus my attention on the surroundings, get a good sense of the place, the happier this little camper will be.

So, when I visited West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York last week, I dedicated as much time as possible to feeling out my new surroundings.

The biggest surprise? Jersey.

One Word || Reverb 10 project

“One Word. Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you?“

Earlier this month I came across the Reverb 10 project via Sheena Jibson’s blog, The Little Red House (a truly lovely little blog, chock-full of pictures and cooking and goodness).

This project began (in 2009) as a reflection of the past year, in preparation for the new one. Gwen Bell, the project’s creator, writes:

Last year, I decided to do something about the melancholy and isolation I felt at the end of the year. I wanted to celebrate, to reflect on the year while allowing space for any sadness that needed to arise.

Whatever’s arising is arising. So this year it’s about considering our reverberations.

Reverberations. That’s what this year has been for me – a study in, and consideration of, my reverberations in the world. Each word, each tweet. Each exchange given my fullest attention. Treating each moment as if it matters.

This year’s project, then, is called Reverb 10.
