Chicken fingers || An ode

Though I have but been upon this earth

for two dozen years and one day,

my appetite doth act out

as if nineteen of those years did not count.

For, to my tongue, stomach and heart,

the chicken fingers are truly the best delight.

The sweet, juicy inside,

fried, crispy outside,

a boat of honey mustard, ranch or ketchup……on the side.

What poultry dish could maintain the affection

of one girl for so many years?

But one: the fingers of the chicken.

(Not to be confused with chicken nuggets. That’s a whole other animal.)

(Figuratively speaking. Of course. Because a chicken is just one animal. A chicken.)

(OK bye. )
