natural light vegetables || food photography

There’s nothing quite like photographing beautifully colored vegetables in natural light.

There’s nothing quite like being so inspired by the natural light mixing with the contrasting vegetables that you come up with a file name so lyrical as natural light vegetables.

There’s nothing quite like just going with it and making that the title of this post too.

There’s nothing quite like getting so fed up with a particularly ridiculous photographer/blogger/babbler that you click out of the browser as quickly as possible, never to return again.

It’s OK, I won’t hold it against you.

Focused perspective || Fancy phone photography

I’m lacking words today.

I’ve started typing, then deleting, then re-typing, then deleting, and beginning once more, over and over again.

I’m not sure where my words have gone this evening. Perhaps they are just weary from a long week and have thus decided to begin the weekend early.

Perhaps I should follow my words’ lead and do the same.

Perhaps I should just show you my walkabout photos from yesterday.

Well, all right then, I will.

In memoriam || Conflict photographers

Life.

It can be neither planned nor arranged to our liking.

We try every day to direct its course and guess the outcome.

But we never really can.

Today I intended to show you a number of photos I shot from a walk about the neighborhood, through the city, and to my work that I make each morning.

These photos are edited and stored and ready to go, but something more important has happened. So those photos will wait until tomorrow.

This morning, I got word that four photojournalists covering the ongoing conflict in Libya have been injured.

Tim Hetherington has died.

Chris Hondros sustained a severe brain injury which resulted in his death.

Guy Martin and Michael Christopher Brown are hurt but expected to survive.

Early reports indicate they were working near the front lines when they were hit by a mortar attack.

you and your camera || service photojournalism

I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote and how it applies to what I like to think of as service photojournalism. That is, photography that contributes to the greater good, that calls our attention to issues beyond ourselves, that asks us to help those less fortunate.

I put a lot of limits on myself. I concoct all these reasons that I can’t do what I aspire to. I imagine that, being only one girl with one voice, I can’t make a difference. But those limitations exist only in myself.

Yesterday, I found four women photographers (through this site) trying to fund a project to call attention to the ongoing war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ring around the archives || Photo redux

The Love Language | Boulder, Colo.

Sometimes, I just don’t feel that creative.

A mind block shuts me down.

I reach out into the void that is the gray matter of my brain (which coincidentally I found out this weekend isn’t fully formed until about the 25th year of life…gives me 385 more days to use that as an excuse) and I get nothing in return.

Nothing.

The void remains a void.
